There is no better sight on South Tea Lake than a fleet of sailboats maneuvering through the waters as campers practice their sailing skills or head out for the very first time. Sailing has been a part of Camp Tamakwa for generations, teaching campers to appreciate boating with only their newfound skills and the wind. Knot tying, terminology and sailing methodology are taught with the greatest of care.
A motorized safety boat is always on the water to provide important sailing instruction and to ensure any problems on the water are cared for immediately. Many campers grow up at Tamakwa improving their skill levels year after year and try to attain Tamakwa’s Sailing awards, usually with their sights set on the highest award bestowed upon a sailor at Tamakwa, the “First Class Skipper”.
Our fleet includes Optimist sailboats for young/beginner sailors, JY-15 sailboats for all levels of sailors, and a 16-foot Hobie-Cat for another exciting type of sailing experience.
